　　专有名词是名词中比较特殊的一类,是相对普通名词而言的某人或某物特有的名称。翻译专有名词时,译者需要查询大量资料,了解相关背景信息,掌握专有名词翻译的恰当方法,以便译文读者理解专有名词所指的具体事物。The Letters of Samuel Beckett Volume(I)(《贝克特书信集卷一》)收录了1929至1940年间萨缪尔·贝克特写给朋友、同事和出版商的书信,从个人视角描绘了20世纪30年代的西欧,记录了他的心声和感悟。贝克特精通多种语言,擅长文学创作,又广泛涉猎音乐和美术,书信中提及了大量专有名词。因此,对这些专有名词的恰当表述是翻译该书的主要难点之一。本文主要依据1937年12月至1938年4月之间的信件及其注释的汉译,以案例分析的形式探讨专有名词的翻译原则和方法,为全四卷专有名词的翻译确立规范。笔者以翻译界对专有名词的定义及“约定俗成,名从主人”翻译原则为指导,将文本中的专有名词分为英语类和非英语类,探讨了约定俗成、符合标准、参照平行文本、音从主人、义从主人和参照英文注释六种翻译方法,旨在为《萨缪尔·贝克特书信集》后三卷的翻译提供规范和有价值的参考,即保障后续同类术语译...
