汤亭亭的《女勇士》被公认为是美国华裔文学的代表之作。该小说以女性为主体,描述了在中美两国不同的生活背景下,女性们的痛苦,挣扎,不甘与反抗。在小说中,美国的第一代中国女性移民母亲勇兰、姨妈月兰与第二代移民叙述者“我”的女性身份认同,有着明显的代际差异,她们在对待中国传统文化和美国文化的问题上观点并不一致,受到中国传统文化和美国文化影响的程度和角度各有不同。鉴于此,本文将聚焦于小说刻画的华人女性人物,分析美国华裔女性的身份认同。本文分四章,分别从家庭身份、社会身份和民族身份等三个方面对作品中的女性身份问题进行了探讨,并在此基础上探讨了《女勇士》所试图建构的美国华裔女性的理想身份。第一章主要探讨女性的家庭身份及其对生活的看法。本章主要分析了月兰、无名姑姑和勇兰三个人物在作品中的家庭身份,认为小说批判了中国封建传统文化的家庭观念对女性的规训,意在表明女性只有摆脱陈旧的“三从四德”观念,从中国封建文化的婚姻观中觉醒,接受美国现代社会的女性独立思想,才能够实现对家庭身份的重新认知。第二章主要从社会责任方面来分析女性的性别身份建构。本文认为,母亲勇兰、姨妈月兰和无名姑妈深受影响的旧中国封建文化对女性...
